CRANK COUNTY DAREDEVILS Sign With GEARHEAD RECORDS
April 15, 2009Gearhead Records, an independent record label located in Northern California, has announced the signing of the Asheville, North Carolina sleaze-metal band CRANK COUNTY DAREDEVILS. The group's new CD is scheduled for a late summer release.
Label owner Michelle Haunold had been aware of the band for several years. "A friend of mine who writes for various metal magazines had sent me a demo for CRANK COUNTY DAREDEVILS back in 2004," she said. "It was pretty good, but they were still pretty raw and unseasoned. I felt they needed some time to really gel as a band."
In 2008 Gearhead Records art director Ralph Miller moved to North Carolina, and unbeknownst to Haunold became friends with the band and started seeing their live shows. "He called me up one day raving about this band, and I just had to laugh," Haunold chuckled. "It was the same band, and wow, a few years of touring non-stop really pulled them together!" She flew out to North Carolina to catch a private performance by the band, and after working out the details, inked a contract with the band at the Gearhead Records label showcase in Reno, Nevada during the Lady Luck Tattoo Convention.
"This band is pretty different from the rest of the Gearhead roster, but they're great, "enthuses Haunold. "They make perfect sense with their classic rock sound and '80s metal look. And they're very hard-working, having toured continuously all over the south as part of the biker festival circuit. I'm very excited to have them join the family."
CRANK COUNTY DAREDEVILS formed in 2003. Tearing up the stage with their classic sleaze-metal sound and looks, the band was compared often to MÖTLEY CRÜE and FASTER PUSSYCAT and their second self-released record, "Livin' in the Red", was called "the greatest album GUNS N' ROSES never made" by Classic Rock magazine. The band was also featured on Discovery Channel's "Biker Build-Off" with Billy Lane.
While several labels courted the band, they held off signing any deals. "We have run our band independently for the past five years and knew that when we signed to a label it would be to someone that held the passion for hard working outsiders such as ourselves," says lead guitarist and singer Scott Lanning. "We wanted a label that truly understands the underground rock n' roll movement, someone who had balls to back real rock music in the USA."
